Nant-y-Cwm Summer School

Morning Lessons (9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Four Days a Week)

• EFL-Focused Curriculum: Our English as a Foreign Language teachers deliver a varied programme of study covering key elements of Beginner, Elementary, and Intermediate levels. Lessons are tailored to each group’s ability, ensuring steady progress in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
• Steiner-Inspired Methods: We emphasise storytelling, drama, interactive discussions, and conversation sessions with older Nant y Cwm students. This experiential approach encourages a deeper understanding of the language, building confidence and fluency.

 While each day may vary slightly based on weather and planned outings, here’s a look at a typical weekly rhythm:

9am to 12 noon:  Morning Language Workshops
Small-group lessons with EFL teachers, conversation practice, and creative   language activities.

12 noon to 1pm:  Lunch & Leisure
Students and staff share a relaxed mealtime, followed by free play or quiet   reflection.

1pm to 5pm:  Afternoon Activities
Art and crafts, outdoor skills, beach visits, surfing, and sports.

One day per week will be an extended day (9am to 5pm)
In-depth excursion or special project day, e.g., coasteering or a trip to Skomer Island.

Evenings: Students who stay on-site can enjoy informal social gatherings, board games, and gentle wind-down activities under staff supervision.

• Outdoor Adventures: Experience the beauty of Pembrokeshire through forest walks, beach days, surfing lessons, and coasteering. Children connect with nature and gain confidence in their physical abilities.
• Creative & Cultural Sessions: Afternoon workshops in art, crafts, music, and games reinforce language learning in a hands-on manner, reflecting the Steiner ideal of engaging head, heart, and hands.
• Excursions & Day Trips: Twice during the programme, we venture off-campus for a full day—examples include boat trips around Skomer Island to spot wildlife or coasteering along the rugged Welsh coastline.

These varied activities foster teamwork and provide real-life contexts for practising English skills.

• Standard Fee: £2,350 per child
  Includes schooling, activities, accommodation, supervised airport transfer, and all meals, but does not include flights
• Sibling Discount: £2,150 per additional child
  This rate applies to any subsequent children from the same family.
• Payment Terms: Fees must be paid in full and in advance.
• MIKE: Check that exempt from VAT and not caught by legislation.

 We’re pleased to partner with the Penquoit Centre for our summer school lodging. Nestled in the scenic Pembrokeshire countryside, the Penquoit Centre offers a welcoming and rustic setting that complements our Steiner ethos. Children will stay in shared dormitory-style accommodation, with staff on hand at all times to ensure their safety and comfort.

• Facilities:
  • Communal dining area and kitchen
  • Comfortable sleeping arrangements
  • Spaces for relaxation and socialising
• Meals: All meals are provided, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. 
• MIKE - do we want to say more about food? Vegan, vegatarian options available?

We offer supervised transport for unaccompanied children arriving at Bristol or Cardiff airport

MIKE: We need to think about this. We may need to limit this service to Bristol Airport and specified flights only to avoid us having to make multiple trips. If so, we would set out the flights that we will collect from. This also is affected by dates the camp is on which i was not sure about.

Children will be met by our staff and transported safely to the Penquoit Centre, where our summer school accomodation is located. Children will be transported to Nant y Cwm school each day.

 For summer 2025*, we are currently planning two start dates:

• 19 July
• 26 July

Each session runs for one (or two weeks?) (depending on availability), finishing accordingly.

• MIKE: We need to coordinate with German (and possibly other European) school schedules, flight options, and finalise these dates.
